Bengaluru, March 26, 2025 – Stonehill International School in Jala Hobli conducted its inaugural campus bird census as part of the annual WWF campus census. The initiative, which involved students and faculty, aimed to document avian biodiversity, track population trends, and contribute to conservation efforts.
Thirty-five bird species were identified, including common birds like Bulbuls, Bee-eaters, and Drongos, as well as rarer migratory species such as Kingfishers and Orioles. The school highlighted the ecological importance of the campus, noting that the presence of diverse bird species is an indicator of environmental health.
Participants employed a bird treasure hunt slideshow for species identification and recorded sightings using a Google form. Awards were presented for best sighting list, best photograph, and best drawing.
The school emphasized the educational value of the census, stating that it promoted ecosystem awareness among students and highlighted the role of birds in pollination, pest control, and seed dispersal. The collected data will inform future conservation planning and environmental initiatives within the school.
