**Bhadrachalam, March 27, 2025** – A six-story building under construction collapsed in Bhadrachalam on Wednesday, resulting in the death of one worker and leaving another trapped beneath the rubble. 48-year-old Challa Kamesh died after a nearly 10-hour rescue operation. Another worker, identified as Upender, remains trapped, with rescue efforts by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) continuing.
Kamesh, a resident of Jagadeesh Colony, was extricated at 1:45 AM and rushed to the Government Area Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Upender’s relatives have staged a protest, demanding swift action and accountability.
Local residents allege that the building’s owner, Sripathi, constructed the building illegally on an old basement, violating building regulations and collecting funds under the guise of a charitable trust. Authorities confirmed that the structure was indeed unauthorized and that two prior stop-work orders were ignored.
Collector Jitesh V. Patil and Superintendent of Police B. Rohith Raju oversaw the rescue operation, and the Collector promised strict action against Sripathi. The incident is being investigated as a potential case of negligence and violation of building codes.
