NEW DELHI, March 27, 2025 – The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has postponed its elections, originally scheduled for March 28th, due to ongoing legal challenges. The decision follows orders from the Delhi and Himachal Pradesh High Courts directing the reinstatement of individuals omitted from the electoral college.
The BFI cited the Returning Officer’s assessment that completing the election process within the original timeframe is “practically impossible” given the court-mandated additions to the electoral college. The courts overturned a March 7th BFI order that disqualified non-elected members of state associations from the electoral college. This ruling, challenged by the BFI, ultimately led to the postponement. The elections, already delayed multiple times, were initially slated for before February 2nd. The BFI’s actions were prompted by the Indian Olympic Association’s appointment of an ad-hoc committee, a move subsequently stayed by the Delhi High Court. The BFI’s notification to member units confirmed the postponement of the Annual General Meeting (AGM), where the election of office bearers was to be held.
