Thu Mar 27 12:57:47 UTC 2025: ## Silent Protest Planned in Hyderabad Against Waqf Amendment Bill

**Hyderabad, March 27, 2025** – A silent protest against the controversial Waqf Amendment Bill will be held this Friday in Hyderabad, coinciding with Jumatul Vida, the last Friday of Ramzan. The protest, called for by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), will involve community members wearing black armbands as a peaceful demonstration of their opposition.

Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, president of the AIMPLB, confirmed the planned demonstration, stating that the black armband is a symbolic protest against the bill. He clarified that while no large-scale protests are currently planned in Hyderabad or elsewhere in Telangana, larger demonstrations across India could follow if the bill is passed. The AIMPLB’s stance is motivated by concerns that the bill undermines the protection of Waqf properties and institutions.

Previous protests organized by the AIMPLB in Patna and Vijayawada aimed to pressure the Bihar and Andhra Pradesh state governments, both NDA partners, to oppose the bill. Critics argue the bill allows for the takeover of Waqf lands by weakening the existing Waqf system and removing key provisions such as the waqf-by-user provision and the Waqf Tribunals. The empowerment of the District Collector as the final arbiter in Waqf matters is another point of contention. The Congress party’s clear opposition to the bill is cited as a reason for the currently limited scope of the protest in Hyderabad.
