Thu Mar 27 14:58:44 UTC 2025: ## Tiruchi Activists Protest Green Park Demolition for Vegetable Market

**Tiruchi, March 27, 2025** – Environmental activists in Tiruchi are protesting the planned demolition of Green Park in Panjapur to make way for a new integrated vegetable market. A petition submitted to the Corporation Commissioner and the district administration argues that the 22-acre park, developed over 25 years through community efforts, should be preserved.

Activists cite the availability of alternative government land near the Tiruchi-Madurai National Highway as a reason to reconsider the project. They highlight the substantial cost and impracticality of relocating the hundreds of trees currently in the park, emphasizing its importance as an “oxygen buffer zone” for a nearby integrated bus terminal.

The petition also points to an existing, unused market complex in Kallukudi as evidence of poor planning. The activists, representing organizations including District Exnora and Makkal Sakthi Iyyakam, urge the authorities to find an alternative location for the vegetable market, preventing the destruction of the valued green space.
