**London, UK** – The hit British detective comedy “Ludwig,” starring David Mitchell as a word puzzle creator who goes undercover as his missing twin brother, has been renewed for a second season by BBC One. The show, which premiered in the UK on September 25th, 2024, and debuted on BritBox in the US on March 20th, became the BBC’s biggest new scripted series since 2022, attracting 9.5 million viewers in its first 28 days.

The six-episode first season charmed both critics and audiences with its clever blend of comedy and drama. Mitchell’s performance as the titular character, John “Ludwig” Taylor, has been widely praised. The series follows Ludwig as he solves puzzles that unexpectedly lead him to uncover his brother’s disappearance.

BBC director of comedy commissioning, Jon Petrie, stated that the show’s success was due to “the blend of top-tier British comic talent, a gripping mystery, and brilliantly crafted crime storylines.” Mitchell himself confirmed that the mystery surrounding his brother’s disappearance will continue into the second season, offering a further unfolding narrative.

While a UK premiere date for Season 2 hasn’t been announced, a US release is anticipated approximately six months after its UK debut, mirroring the timeline of Season 1. Mitchell and Anna Maxwell Martin, who plays Ludwig’s sister-in-law and close friend, will reprise their roles. Additional casting announcements for Season 2 are forthcoming. The first two episodes of Ludwig are currently available on BritBox.
