**HONOLULU, HAWAII –** A Maui doctor has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking his wife at Oahu’s Pali Lookout on Monday. Gerhardt Konig, 46, anesthesiologist with the Anesthesia Medical Group, is accused of assaulting his wife, 36-year-old nuclear engineer Arielle Konig, with his fists and a rock, and attempting to push her off a hiking trail. He also allegedly used syringes in the attack.

The incident reportedly occurred around 10:45 a.m. after Arielle Konig refused to take a picture with her husband. She was found with serious facial and head injuries and hospitalized in critical condition.

Konig was apprehended near Pali Highway around 6:45 p.m. following a brief foot chase. He has been suspended from his medical staff privileges at Maui Memorial Medical Center and other facilities where he worked under contract with Maui Health.

“Maui Health takes these concerns and the safety of its patients very seriously and will cooperate with authorities as appropriate,” the healthcare system stated in a press release.

The couple, married since 2018 and residents of a $1.5 million Maui home, were visiting Oahu when the alleged attack occurred. Konig has a previous marriage and at least one child from a prior relationship. The investigation is ongoing.
