Tue Mar 25 16:15:17 UTC 2025: ## Indian Aviation Regulator Mandates Passenger Rights Information Sharing
**New Delhi, March 27, 2024** – The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a directive requiring all Indian airlines to proactively inform passengers of their rights and regulations. Following a surge in passenger complaints regarding service issues, the regulator has implemented a two-day compliance deadline (March 27th) for airlines to update their systems.
The new rules mandate that airlines send passengers a link to their passenger charter via SMS or WhatsApp immediately after ticket booking. This link must also be prominently displayed on both the airline’s website and the ticket itself. The charter will detail passenger rights concerning flight delays, cancellations, boarding denials, baggage issues, and other related matters.
The move aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the Indian aviation sector, particularly benefiting first-time flyers. SpiceJet has already complied, while other airlines have confirmed they will implement the changes swiftly.
The directive follows a wave of high-profile complaints. Recently, Air India faced criticism from Member of Parliament Supriya Sule and Australian cricketer David Warner over significant delays and operational issues, including an incident where a flight boarded without assigned pilots. Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle also voiced his displeasure with IndiGo’s customer service. These incidents underscore the need for improved passenger rights awareness and airline accountability, prompting the DGCA’s swift action.
