**CHENNAI, March 26, 2025** – Chennai police have arrested three individuals responsible for a string of six chain-snatching incidents across south Chennai. The gang, originating from north India, targeted elderly women in areas including Saidapet, Adyar, Thiruvanmiyur, and Guindy early Tuesday morning.
Utilizing stolen two-wheelers, the suspects would arrive in Chennai by air, commit the crimes, abandon the vehicles, and then depart by air or rail. Over 100 police officers were deployed in special teams to track the offenders, utilizing CCTV footage to identify the suspects.
Two suspects, Jaffer Gulam Usain Irani and Nizamum Dhusvasam Nesan Irani, were apprehended at and near Chennai airport, halting a flight bound for Hyderabad in the process. A third suspect, Salman Hussain, was arrested at Ongole railway station. Police had alerted airports and railway stations nationwide as part of their investigation. The investigation highlights a sophisticated modus operandi involving interstate travel and the use of stolen vehicles.
