**Chennai, March 25, 2025** – Manoj Bharathiraja, a prominent Tamil actor and director, passed away today at the age of 48. He suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at his home in Chetpet, Chennai, around 6 PM.
Bharathiraja, son of renowned director Bharathiraja, was reportedly admitted to a hospital after experiencing ill health for the past few days. He had undergone open-heart surgery at SIMS Hospital in Vadapalani, Chennai, about a month ago and was recovering at home. Doctors confirmed his death upon arrival at the hospital. His body is currently at his residence.
Manoj Bharathiraja made his acting debut in his father’s film, “Taj Mahal.” He went on to star in several successful films, including “Samuthiram,” “Mannaadu,” “Alli Arjuna,” “Varusham Ellam Vasantham,” “Eeswaran,” and “Viruman.” He also directed the film “Marghazhi Thingal,” which was released last year. He had also worked as an assistant director under Mani Ratnam in Bombay. He is survived by his wife, actress Nandita, and two daughters.
