Tue Mar 25 16:10:41 UTC 2025: ## Al Jazeera Journalist Killed in Israeli Gaza Strike as Conflict Intensifies

**Gaza City, Palestinian Territories –** An Israeli air strike killed Al Jazeera journalist Hussam Shabat on Monday, March 25, 2025, further escalating the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The strike, which targeted Shabat’s car near a Beit Lahia petrol station, also resulted in the deaths of other civilians. The Israeli military issued warnings prior to the strike, urging residents of northern Gaza to evacuate.

The Israeli military’s renewed bombardment and ground operations, which began last Tuesday after ceasefire talks failed, have caused widespread devastation. The Gaza health ministry reported 730 deaths since the renewed offensive began on March 18th, with 57 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since October 7th to at least 50,082. This follows the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel which resulted in 1,218 Israeli deaths, mostly civilians.

In a separate incident, a Palestine Today TV journalist, Muhammad Mansour, was also killed in an Israeli air strike. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned both deaths, stating that over 206 journalists and media workers have been killed since the start of the conflict.

The conflict’s intensity is underscored by the release of a Hamas video showing two Israeli hostages, Elkana Bohbot and Yosef Haim Ohana, appealing for their release. Their families are urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump to intervene.

Meanwhile, Israel continues to launch strikes beyond Gaza. The Israeli military struck two military bases in Syria on Tuesday, prompting warnings from the EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas about the risk of further escalation. Additionally, the Israeli military intercepted a missile launched from Yemen and three projectiles launched from Gaza. The Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for launching two missiles towards Israel.

The situation in Gaza remains dire. The Rafah municipality reported thousands of civilians trapped under intense shelling in the Tal al-Sultan neighbourhood, with all communication cut off and the healthcare system collapsed. Israel’s announcement of an administration dedicated to the voluntary departure of Gaza residents to a third country has drawn condemnation from Egypt. The ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis continue to deepen.
