Tue Mar 25 17:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Diamondbacks Pitcher Jordan Montgomery to Undergo Second Tommy John Surgery

**Phoenix, AZ –** Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery will undergo Tommy John surgery next week, ending his 2025 season prematurely, the team announced Tuesday. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Keith Meister.

This marks the second Tommy John surgery for the 32-year-old veteran, who previously underwent the procedure in 2018 while with the New York Yankees. Montgomery’s 2025 season was already off to a rocky start, posting a 6.23 ERA in 25 appearances (21 starts) last year before transitioning to the bullpen. Despite his struggles, he exercised his $22.5 million player option for this season. His performance in Spring Training, where he allowed five earned runs in three innings across two appearances, ultimately resulted in a bullpen role.

Montgomery signed a one-year, $25 million contract with the Diamondbacks last year, a deal intended to bolster their starting rotation after their surprising World Series run. The veteran’s injury casts a shadow over the team’s pitching plans for the season. He will become a free agent after completing his recovery. Montgomery’s career ERA stands at 4.03 across 166 appearances with four different MLB teams.
