Wed Mar 26 02:00:00 UTC 2025: **Texas Longhorns Hire Sean Miller as New Men’s Basketball Coach**

AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Longhorns have appointed Sean Miller as their new men’s basketball head coach, the school announced Monday. Miller, a highly successful coach with a career record of over 487 wins and 13 NCAA tournament appearances, replaces Rodney Terry, who will not be returning after leading the team to the Elite Eight this past season.

Miller’s appointment comes just days after his former team, Xavier, defeated Texas in a thrilling First Four matchup of the NCAA tournament. Xavier overcame a 13-point deficit to secure an 86-80 victory.

Texas Athletics Director Chris Del Conte stated that Miller was a “perfect fit” for the program, praising his leadership qualities and comprehensive plan for the Longhorns’ future. While Terry guided Texas to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, the program sought a coach with a proven track record of deeper tournament success.

Miller boasts an extensive coaching resume, including successful stints at Arizona, where he won four Pac-12 regular-season titles and reached three Elite Eights, and his previous tenure at Xavier. His return to Xavier in 2022 followed a period away from the program after he was let go from Arizona amidst an NCAA investigation. He has consistently demonstrated an ability to build winning programs, leading to multiple NCAA tournament appearances at both schools.

Xavier has already begun the search for Miller’s replacement.
