**Charleston, SC** – Amidst speculation linking him to his former team, Chris Mack has announced he will remain head coach of the College of Charleston Cougars for a second season. The news comes just days after Sean Miller left Xavier to coach at the University of Texas, creating a vacancy at Mack’s former program where he served for nine years.

Mack, a Cincinnati native, released a statement on social media Tuesday night definitively ending rumors of his return to Xavier. “Just about a year ago my family joined me at Cistern Yard to celebrate the start of something special here in Charleston,” he wrote. “You have been incredibly supportive from day one. Mack, 55, led the Cougars to a 24-9 record in his first season. His impressive tenure at Xavier from 2009-2018 included eight NCAA Tournament appearances. Following his time at Xavier, he served as head coach at Louisville for four seasons before taking the Charleston job. His decision to remain with the Cougars leaves Xavier’s search for a new head coach ongoing.
