Tue Mar 25 20:32:00 UTC 2025: ## Sudan Airstrike Kills at Least 54 in Darfur Market

**Cairo, March 26, 2025** – At least 54 people were killed and dozens more injured in a Sudanese military airstrike on a market in the western region of Darfur on Monday, March 24, 2025, aid groups reported. The attack, which caused a large fire in the village of Tora, has been condemned as a war crime by human rights organizations.

The Sudanese military spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Nabil Abdullah, denied targeting civilians, claiming the allegations were inaccurate. However, the Emergency Lawyers coalition, which tracks war violations in Sudan, stated that the strike hit a densely populated civilian area, constituting a “systematic war crime.” Graphic video footage shared by Support Darfur Victims depicts the devastation, showing burnt structures and charred bodies. More than half of the victims were reportedly women. Seven people are still missing.

The strike is the latest in a series of deadly attacks in the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023. The war has already claimed over 28,000 lives, displaced millions, and caused widespread famine. The UN and international human rights groups have documented numerous atrocities, including mass rape and ethnically motivated killings, particularly in Darfur. While the military has recently made gains in Khartoum, reclaiming key government buildings, fighting continues across the country. Adam Rejal, a spokesman for a local aid group, described the airstrike as “a crime against humanity.” The incident has prompted calls for an independent investigation and accountability for those responsible.
