Tue Mar 25 07:34:21 UTC 2025: ## Webb Telescope Captures Stunning Image of Stellar Outflow and Distant Galaxy
**CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida, March 25, 2025** – NASA and the European Space Agency released a breathtaking new image captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, showcasing a plume of gas and dust ejected from a young star, with a spiral galaxy forming a dramatic backdrop. The composite image, released Monday, resembles a rocket’s contrail streaking towards the distant galaxy.
The outflow, located approximately 625 light-years from Earth in a nearby star-forming region of the Milky Way, was observed by Webb in infrared light. NASA described the juxtaposition of the stellar outflow and the background galaxy as “a lucky alignment” of two unrelated celestial objects.
While a similar image was captured by the retired Spitzer Space Telescope in 2006, the Webb telescope’s superior resolution provides significantly greater detail, revealing the background galaxy and other features previously obscured. The 2006 image, dubbed “the cosmic tornado,” was too fuzzy to show these details.
Launched in 2021, the James Webb Space Telescope is the largest and most powerful space observatory ever deployed, providing unprecedented clarity in astronomical observations.
