Tue Mar 25 14:41:12 UTC 2025: ## Shivamogga Zoo Uses Water Sprinklers to Beat the Heat

**Shivamogga, Karnataka, March 25, 2025** – With temperatures soaring to 35 degrees Celsius in the Malnad region, the Tiger and Lion Safari at Tyavarekoppa near Shivamogga is taking steps to keep its animals cool. The zoo has implemented a system of water sprinklers and foggers throughout the facility to combat the rising heat.

These measures benefit not only the animals, including tigers, lions, gaurs, and herbivores, but also the numerous visitors to the popular zoo. Many tourists are seen taking advantage of the cooling mist provided by the sprinklers.

V.M. Amarakshara, executive director of the 253-hectare zoo, stated that water is being used judiciously to maintain a comfortable environment. In addition to the sprinklers and foggers, zoo staff are ensuring that animal enclosures and ponds have sufficient water. The zoo, established in 1988, relies on water from the Shivamogga City Corporation and boasts a 2.5 lakh litre overhead tank and a 1 lakh litre sump. An average of 3.3 lakh people visit the zoo annually.

The Shivamogga district administration has also advised the public to take precautions against the heat. The rising temperatures have prompted many to stay indoors between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
