Tue Mar 25 10:53:07 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Assembly Speaker Calls for Removal of Conocarpus Trees Planted Under Harita Haaram
**Hyderabad, March 25, 2025** – Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker G. Prasad Kumar has urged the state government to remove Conocarpus trees planted along major roads and highways as part of the Harita Haaram afforestation program. The Speaker cited concerns that these trees, unlike most others, allegedly absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide.
Mr. Kumar’s suggestion came during a discussion on the Harita Haaram program in the assembly on Tuesday. BRS member Vemula Prashanth Reddy highlighted the program’s ambitious goal of planting over 200 crore saplings. The Speaker noted that Conocarpus trees make up a substantial portion of these plantings and expressed his concern about their purported effect on air quality. The Telangana government has yet to respond to the Speaker’s call for removal.
