**New Delhi:** Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday presented the BJP’s first budget for the national capital in nearly three decades, a ₹1 lakh crore outlay focused on ten key areas. The budget, 31.5% larger than the previous AAP government’s budget, allocates ₹28,000 crore for capital expenditure to address infrastructure shortcomings, including road repairs, traffic management, and flood mitigation.
The budget includes significant allocations for women’s welfare, with ₹5,100 crore earmarked for the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, promising a monthly ₹2,500 aid to women. Environmental concerns are addressed through ₹1,000 crore for improving sewage treatment plants and cleaning the Yamuna River, alongside ₹9,000 crore for water filtration and sanitation projects. An ambitious plan to install 50,000 CCTV cameras across the city aims to enhance women’s safety.
Improvements to public transport are prioritized with ₹1,000 crore allocated to enhance connectivity. The education sector will see reforms, with the launch of CM-SHRI schools modeled after the PM-SHRI initiative, and ₹750 crore allocated for providing laptops to 1,200 students. Healthcare infrastructure will receive a boost with ₹6,874 crore allocated, including funds to expand the Ayushman Arogya Mandir initiative.
The budget also addresses housing needs for the economically weaker sections, allocating ₹696 crore for slum development and ₹100 crore for establishing 100 Atal Canteens. ₹300 crore is allocated to combat air pollution.
Chief Minister Gupta repeatedly criticized the previous AAP government, accusing it of neglecting infrastructure and mismanaging funds. The budget announcement was punctuated by jabs at former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, referencing allegations of misuse of public funds for renovations.
