**Ahmedabad, Gujarat – March 25, 2025** – A segmental launching gantry, a massive crane used in the construction of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project, skidded and fell near Vatva-Ropda Road on Sunday night, March 23rd, disrupting train services on an adjacent railway line. The incident resulted in the cancellation of 38 trains and partial cancellation of seven others, including Vande Bharat and Shatabdi Express services.
The accident, which occurred at the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) worksite, caused damage to the railway track and overhead electric equipment (OHE). However, no injuries were reported.
A complex, multi-crane operation lasting over 24 hours successfully lifted the fallen gantry by 11:58 PM on Monday. This involved the deployment of two 750-ton cranes, two 500-ton cranes, and a 130-ton crane. The meticulous operation ensured the safety of the structure and prevented further damage to the railway line.
Track and OHE repairs were completed by 4:45 AM on Tuesday, allowing the resumption of train services. The first goods train departed at 5:36 AM, followed by the first passenger train at 6:06 AM.
Western Railway officials, including the general manager, oversaw the restoration efforts. Affected passengers received assistance, including refreshments, at various stations, with support from local charitable organizations. A helpline was also established to assist passengers.
