Tue Mar 25 16:14:09 UTC 2025: ## High Court Committee Investigates Allegations Against Justice Yashwant Varma
**New Delhi, March 25, 2025** – A three-member committee of High Court judges launched a detailed investigation Tuesday into allegations surrounding a fire at the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma, a Delhi High Court judge. The inquiry follows allegations of “sacks of half-burnt currency” found after a fire in a storeroom at Justice Varma’s Tughlak Crescent residence. The Supreme Court Collegium previously recommended his transfer to the Allahabad High Court and removed him from judicial duties.
The committee, comprising Chief Justices Sheel Nagu (Punjab and Haryana High Court), G.S. Sandhawalia (Himachal Pradesh High Court), and Justice Anu Sivaraman (Karnataka High Court), spent over 30 minutes examining the residence. The investigation builds upon a preliminary probe ordered by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna.
Justice Varma maintains that no currency was found at the scene, a claim supported by a report from a Delhi High Court official who inspected the room shortly after the fire. This official’s report, however, contrasts with a Delhi Police report mentioning the removal of “half-burnt articles and debris” on the morning following the fire.
The committee is tasked with investigating several key questions, including Justice Varma’s explanation for the alleged money, its source, and who removed it from the premises. The inquiry aims to ensure a fair and impartial process, adhering to principles of natural justice and protecting the integrity of the judiciary. The committee’s findings will be crucial in determining the veracity of the allegations.
