**Patna, Bihar, March 25, 2025** – The Bihar Legislative Council witnessed a heated exchange between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of the Opposition Rabri Devi on Tuesday. The argument stemmed from RJD MLAs wearing badges celebrating a quota hike for deprived castes, a policy enacted during a previous Tejashwi Yadav-led government and later struck down by the Patna High Court.

CM Kumar accused the RJD of attempting to claim credit for the policy, publicly dismissing Rabri Devi as inconsequential and a mere proxy for her husband, RJD president Lalu Prasad. He pointedly highlighted the badges worn by RJD members, emphasizing the party’s attempt to take credit for legislation passed under a previous administration. He further criticized Rabri Devi’s past appointment as Chief Minister, reminding the assembly that it was during a period when her husband faced corruption charges.

Rabri Devi protested Kumar’s remarks, prompting him to sharply rebuke her, stating that the party’s legacy belonged to her husband, not her. The exchange highlighted the long-standing animosity between Kumar and Lalu Prasad, former allies who have since engaged in repeated political battles.

The RJD responded by accusing Kumar of mental instability and unfitness to govern, while the BJP’s Deputy CM, Samrat Choudhary, countered by asserting that the original quota hike legislation was initiated by Kumar and received unanimous support. Following the altercation, RJD legislators staged a protest outside the Vidhan Parishad, demanding renewed legislation with constitutional protection against judicial review.
