Tue Mar 25 11:50:00 UTC 2025: ## NEC’s Facial Recognition Tech Speeds Up Airport Immigration at Major Japanese Airports
**Tokyo, Japan – March 25, 2025** – NEC Corporation announced today that it has received an order from Japan’s Immigration Services Agency (ISA) for walk-through gates utilizing facial recognition technology to further streamline the return process for international travelers at major Japanese airports. Starting in April, these gates will be deployed at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (Terminal 3), Kansai International Airport (Terminal 1), and Narita International Airport (Terminal 3).
The project also includes the installation of joint kiosks with the Ministry of Finance’s Customs, upgrades to electronic declaration gates at customs inspections, and improved passenger guidance signage to enhance the overall passenger experience. This comprehensive approach aims to significantly improve the efficiency of immigration and customs procedures, benefiting both travelers and airport staff.
The initiative comes in response to the rapidly increasing number of international visitors to Japan, particularly those utilizing electronic processing for immigration and customs declarations. With the upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo and the government’s target of 60 million foreign tourists by 2030, the need for smoother, more efficient airport procedures is paramount. NEC’s advanced technology is seen as a key solution to meeting this growing demand.
