**Chennai, March 25, 2025** – Manoj Bharathiraja, acclaimed Tamil actor and director, passed away today at the age of 48 due to a sudden cardiac arrest. The son of veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja, Manoj suffered the fatal heart attack at his home in Chetpet, Chennai, around 6 PM.
Manoj, who had undergone open-heart surgery at SIMS Hospital in Vadapalani, Chennai, a month ago, had been recovering at home. However, he experienced a decline in his health over the past few days. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead upon arrival. His body is currently at his residence.
Manoj began his career as a lead actor in his father’s film, “Taj Mahal.” He went on to star in several successful Tamil films, including “Samuthiram,” “Mannadu,” “Alli Arjuna,” “Varusham Ellam Vasantham,” “Eeswaran,” and “Viruman.” He also directed the film “Marghazhi Thingal,” released last year. He previously worked as an assistant director under Mani Ratnam in Bombay. Manoj was married to actress Nandita, and the couple had two daughters.
