Tue Mar 25 09:18:29 UTC 2025: ## Madras High Court Bench Recuses Itself from Hearing ED-TASMAC Case

**Chennai, March 25, 2025** – A Division Bench of the Madras High Court, comprising Justices M.S. Ramesh and N. Senthilkumar, recused itself on Tuesday from hearing writ petitions filed by the Tamil Nadu government and the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) challenging Enforcement Directorate (ED) searches.

The petitions challenged the ED’s searches at TASMAC headquarters from March 6-8, 2025, arguing the actions violated principles of federalism and were illegally conducted. One petition sought a declaration that the searches were illegal, while another requested the court to prevent further harassment of TASMAC employees.

The judges cited unspecified reasons for their recusal and directed the High Court Registry to assign the cases to an alternate bench. Following standing instructions approved by Chief Justice K.R. Shriram, the cases will now be heard by Justices S.M. Subramaniam and K. Rajasekar. The ED had been granted an extension until March 24 to file a counter-affidavit before the original hearing was adjourned.
