**Mumbai, India** – Comedian Kunal Kamra is facing a police investigation after a satirical song targeting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde sparked outrage and vandalism. Kamra, who has been summoned by Mumbai Police, requested a one-week extension to appear, stating he will cooperate but will not apologize for his remarks.
The controversy stems from a comedic rendition of the patriotic song “Hum Honge Kamyaab,” altered to “Hum Honge Kangaal” (We shall be bankrupt), which was part of Kamra’s recent comedy special. This prompted Shiv Sena workers to vandalize the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, where the show was filmed.
Kamra responded by posting a video showcasing the vandalism – including the destruction of property, burning of his effigy, and the subsequent release of the perpetrators on bail. The video also features Shiv Sena Yuva Sena General Secretary Rahool Kanal, who threatened further action against Kamra, stating that the vandalism was merely a “trailer” and more was to come. This threat was made after Kanal and 11 others were arrested for their involvement in the incident.
A police complaint was filed against Kamra by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, leading to the ongoing investigation. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between political figures and those perceived as critical of them, with Kamra’s defiance adding fuel to the fire.
