**Kalaburagi, Karnataka, March 25, 2025** – The Karnataka state government announced the release of ₹667.73 crore in compensation to over 236,000 farmers in Kalaburagi district who suffered crop losses during the 2024-25 Kharif season. This is believed to be the largest single compensation payout to farmers in the district’s history, according to Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge.

The compensation covers both crop insurance claims and losses due to natural calamities. ₹575.19 crore will be disbursed as insurance claims to 204,073 farmers enrolled in the crop insurance scheme. An additional ₹76.34 crore in interim relief has already been distributed to 201,847 farmers. Furthermore, ₹13.47 crore from the National and State Drought Relief Fund will aid 35,086 farmers affected by drought in August and September 2024.

The government has also implemented an additional incentive of ₹450 per quintal for red gram, supplementing the central government’s minimum support price (MSP) of ₹7,550. The compensation will be directly deposited into the farmers’ bank accounts. Data collection for the compensation process is ongoing through the Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority’s crop loss portal.
