**Prayagraj, March 25, 2025** – Lawyers of the Allahabad High Court launched an indefinite strike on Tuesday, protesting the transfer of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma back to Allahabad. The protest, led by Bar Association President Anil Tiwari, is not directed at Justice Varma himself, but rather against what they allege is a lack of transparency and corruption within the judicial system.
The Supreme Court collegium confirmed its recommendation to transfer Justice Varma on Monday. This decision follows an investigation into the alleged discovery of a large sum of cash from his Delhi residence after a fire on March 14th. Justice Varma vehemently denies any wrongdoing, calling the allegations a conspiracy.
Mr. Tiwari stated the strike is a fight against those involved in corruption and a system lacking transparency. He emphasized that the lawyers will continue their action until the transfer order is rescinded. The Allahabad High Court Bar Association had previously voiced its opposition to the transfer on Monday.
