**New York, March 25, 2025** – India strongly rejected Pakistan’s repeated attempts to raise the issue of Jammu and Kashmir during a UN Security Council debate on peacekeeping reforms. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, denounced Pakistan’s actions as an attempt to divert attention from the core discussion and reaffirmed India’s position that Jammu and Kashmir is, and will always remain, an integral part of India.
Ambassador Harish described Pakistan’s comments as “unwarranted” and pointed out Pakistan’s own illegal occupation of a portion of Jammu and Kashmir, demanding its immediate evacuation. He emphasized that India would not tolerate questioning of its sovereignty on international platforms. While acknowledging India’s refusal to engage in a detailed response, he made it clear that India’s stance remains firm.
Beyond the Kashmir issue, India advocated for UN peacekeeping mission reforms to address modern challenges like armed groups, non-state actors, and advanced weaponry. Ambassador Harish stressed the importance of troop- and police-contributing countries’ involvement in shaping peacekeeping mandates and the need for adequate funding. He also highlighted India’s recent hosting of the first-ever Conference for Women Peacekeepers from the Global South, underscoring the crucial role of women in peacekeeping operations.
India reiterated its unwavering commitment to UN peacekeeping and urged Security Council reforms to better reflect current geopolitical realities. The debate focused on modernizing UN peacekeeping operations to meet evolving global security threats.
