Mon Mar 24 21:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Pegula’s Miami Open hopes clouded by thigh injury

**MIAMI, FL –** Jessica Pegula’s Miami Open campaign hangs in the balance after she was forced to retire from her doubles match due to a right thigh injury. Despite a hard-fought singles victory earlier in the day, the world number four’s participation in the tournament is now uncertain.

Pegula, who secured her fifth consecutive last-16 appearance at the Miami Open with a win over Anna Kalinskaya, partnered with Ashlyn Krueger in the doubles draw. The American pair were leading 3-1 against Fang-Hsien Wu and Xinyu Jiang when Pegula took a medical timeout and subsequently withdrew.

The injury is a significant setback for Pegula, who also suffered a leg injury last year, forcing her withdrawal from the WTA Finals. She now faces a race against time to recover sufficiently for her next singles match against Marta Kostyuk, scheduled for Monday, March 24th, on the Butch Buchholz court. While Pegula holds a winning head-to-head record against Kostyuk, their last meeting saw the Ukrainian triumph.

Five American women are currently in the Miami Open’s last 16, but Pegula’s injury casts a shadow over their collective success. Her ability to compete in the upcoming singles match remains highly questionable.
