**Beijing, [Date of Publication]** – India and China held the 33rd meeting of their Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on border affairs in Beijing today, resulting in positive discussions on the ongoing boundary dispute. The meeting, led by India’s Joint Secretary (East Asia) Gourangalal Das and China’s Director General of the Boundary and Oceanic Affairs Department Hong Liang, focused on reviewing the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Both sides agreed to resume cross-border cooperation, including initiatives related to trans-border rivers and the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra. They also committed to preparing for the upcoming meeting of their Special Representatives on the boundary question, scheduled for later this year in Delhi.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the discussions as “positive and constructive,” noting a comprehensive review of the LAC situation and exploration of measures to implement decisions made during the 23rd meeting of Special Representatives in December 2024. India and China reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining and strengthening diplomatic and military mechanisms for addressing LAC issues.
Following the WMCC meeting, Mr. Das paid a courtesy call on China’s Assistant Foreign Minister, Hong Lei. The discussions build on recent positive statements from both sides, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent optimism regarding India-China relations and China’s welcoming response. Both countries have expressed a desire to return to the pre-2020 situation along the LAC to improve bilateral ties.
