**Mumbai, India** – Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, 35, has announced his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs), a move he says will prolong his career in the shorter format. The surprise announcement, made ahead of the Champions Trophy, allows Stoinis to focus solely on T20 cricket, both domestically and internationally. He cited the examples of MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis, who have enjoyed long and successful careers in T20 cricket well into their 40s, as inspiration.

“T20 is my bread and butter,” Stoinis told PTI. “That’s where my skills are best performed.” He aims to emulate the longevity of players like du Plessis and Dhoni, believing their success provides a blueprint for his own extended career. He believes the rule diminishes the value of multi-skilled players and makes it harder for them to secure regular team spots. He expressed support for the BCCI’s new two-year ban for overseas players who pull out of the IPL at the last minute, citing the disruption caused to team planning.
