Tue Mar 25 06:11:49 UTC 2025: ## Kalaburagi Groundwater Levels Plummet: Alarming Decline Over Decade
**Kalaburagi, Karnataka, March 25, 2025** – A decade of dwindling groundwater levels in Kalaburagi district has sparked serious concerns, with data revealing a significant 7.33-meter drop in the average water table. The Ground Water Directorate’s figures paint a grim picture, particularly in Aland and Afzalpur taluks.
Aland taluk experienced the most dramatic decline, witnessing a rise from 15.98 meters below ground level (mbgl) in 2014 to a startling 29.48 mbgl in 2024. Afzalpur taluk also saw a considerable drop, from 9.72 mbgl in 2014 to 20.90 mbgl in 2024, despite a temporary rise in 2021. Chincholi taluk mirrored this trend, with an 8.64-meter decrease.
While Kamalapur taluk displayed fluctuating levels, ultimately showing an 8.88-meter increase over the decade, the overall trend across the district points to a severe depletion of groundwater resources. Experts warn of the need for immediate and effective water management strategies to address this critical issue. The alarming figures highlight the urgent need for community involvement and sustainable practices to mitigate further depletion and ensure long-term water security for the region.
