CHENNAI, March 25, 2025 – The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday addressed concerns regarding Coimbatore’s infrastructure and agricultural challenges. Minister K.N. Nehru announced consultations between the Municipal Administration and Highways Departments to widen roads in the city, citing concerns about narrow roads leading to and from the bus terminus. He acknowledged the problem of a large dumping yard occupying land earmarked for a new integrated bus terminus, stating that its relocation is crucial for the project’s success due to public health concerns.

Further, AIADMK MLA S.P. Velumani raised concerns about the impact of pests and diseases, such as white fly and Kerala wilt, on coconut cultivation in Coimbatore and surrounding districts. He estimated that 70% of coconut trees have been affected and criticized the government’s current approach as ineffective. Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam responded that the government is taking action.
