Tue Mar 25 03:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Early Voting Underway in Florida’s Heated 6th District Congressional Race
**DAYTONA BEACH, FL** – Early voting is underway in Florida’s 6th Congressional District special election to replace former Congressman Michael Waltz, who resigned in January to become President Trump’s national security advisor. The election, scheduled for April 1st, is proving to be a closely contested race between Republican Randy Fine and Democrat Josh Weil.
Early voting, which began Saturday and continues through Saturday, March 25th, has seen a strong turnout across Volusia and Flagler counties, and four other counties within the district. While initial reports showed Democrats outperforming Republicans in Volusia County, Republicans have higher turnout in the other counties. Overall, Democrats hold a slim lead in early voting and mail-in ballots received, with 43.1% of the 46,377 votes cast so far, compared to 41.2% for Republicans. Libertarian Andrew Parrott and no-party affiliation candidate Randall Terry are also in the running.
Both Fine and Weil expressed optimism on Saturday, the first day of early voting. Fine, emphasizing his support for President Trump, stated that a strong Republican turnout would secure a victory. He criticized Weil’s campaign fundraising, alleging that Weil is paying himself a salary from campaign funds. Weil’s campaign responded that the salary is legal and equivalent to his teacher’s salary, allowing him to support his family while campaigning.
Weil, meanwhile, attributed his campaign’s momentum to his focus on issues such as Medicare, Social Security, and lowering costs for families. He dismissed Fine’s attacks as lies.
The 6th District, which is 49% Republican and 25.5% Democrat, is witnessing a far tighter race than previous elections in the area. Long lines at early voting locations, like the one observed in DeLand, suggest high voter engagement. The outcome of this special election will be closely watched, given the narrow Republican majority in the House and the national implications of the race.
