Mon Mar 24 20:15:14 UTC 2025: ## Fadnavis Reveals Details of 2014 BJP-Shiv Sena Alliance Collapse
**Mumbai, India** – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has offered a detailed account of the 2014 breakdown of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, blaming the Shiv Sena’s inflexibility on seat allocation. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony, Fadnavis revealed that the BJP offered Shiv Sena 147 seats in a proposed seat-sharing agreement, with the BJP contesting 127. The Chief Minister’s position would have gone to the BJP, while the Deputy Chief Minister would have been from Shiv Sena.
However, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray insisted on 151 seats, a demand Fadnavis described as the ultimate sticking point. Despite attempts at negotiation, including intervention from BJP leaders Amit Shah and Om Prakash Mathur, Thackeray remained firm, ultimately leading to the collapse of the alliance.
Fadnavis highlighted the crucial role of Mathur, who relayed the situation to Shah, and subsequently to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The final ultimatum, delivered by Fadnavis, reiterated the 147/127 seat-sharing proposal, emphasizing the potential for both parties to win over 200 seats. This proposal was rejected by Thackeray.
Fadnavis further explained that despite the setback, the BJP’s decision to contest a record 260 seats – significantly more than their previous highest of 117 – under the leadership of Modi and Shah paved the way for their electoral success, making them the largest party in Maharashtra and the only party to surpass the 100-seat mark in the last 30 years. He attributed this success to the leadership of Modi, Shah, and Mathur. Fadnavis’s account provides a fresh perspective on a pivotal moment in Maharashtra’s political history.
