Tue Mar 25 15:16:49 UTC 2025: ## Enhanced Security Measures for MMTS Trains Following Assault Attempt
**Hyderabad, March 25, 2025** – The South Central Railway (SCR) has announced sweeping security upgrades for its MMTS suburban train services following an attempted assault on a female passenger last Saturday. The measures, announced Tuesday, aim to improve passenger safety, particularly for women traveling alone.
Key initiatives include the installation of CCTV cameras in all MMTS train compartments with real-time monitoring by Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel. Every ladies’ coach will be equipped with easily accessible panic buttons directly linked to a control room and the train guard.
Further enhancements will see increased deployment of female RPF and GRP staff, particularly in ladies’ compartments and during late-night and early-morning hours. Joint patrols will be conducted, and breath analyzers will be used by RPF personnel to remove intoxicated passengers. Informative displays inside trains will communicate safety messages and emergency contact information.
The SCR is also exploring a mobile app with a one-tap SOS feature integrated with the existing ‘139’ security helpline, and the creation of WhatsApp groups managed by female RPF personnel for immediate response to women’s concerns. Passenger feedback will be actively sought to further refine safety measures. “Meri Saheli” teams will patrol high-risk routes, and plainclothes officers will conduct random checks on trains. Improved lighting at stations and trains is also planned. The SCR is committed to ensuring a safe and secure travel experience for all passengers.
