**Hyderabad, India –** Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha announced on Monday the party’s staunch opposition to the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament. Speaking after an Iftar party in Banswada, Kavitha emphasized the BRS’s continued support for the Muslim community, acknowledging their crucial role in the Telangana movement.
The Bill, aimed at reforming the 1995 Waqf Act to address issues like mismanagement and encroachment of Waqf properties, has drawn criticism from various quarters. Kavitha stated the BRS believes the bill would lead to increased government control over Muslim-owned properties and will actively work against its passage.
This opposition follows a similar stance taken by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), which announced nationwide protests against the Bill on Sunday. While the government has established a Joint Parliamentary Committee to review the Bill, the BRS’s opposition adds further weight to the growing concerns surrounding the proposed legislation. Kavitha’s statement underscores the potential for significant political ramifications as the Bill progresses through Parliament.
