Tue Mar 25 13:17:43 UTC 2025: ## Bangladesh Awaits India’s Response on Yunus-Modi Meeting

**DHAKA, March 25, 2025** – Bangladesh is awaiting a response from India regarding a proposed meeting between Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting, suggested by Dhaka, would take place on the sidelines of the upcoming BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok.

Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin confirmed Bangladesh’s readiness for the meeting, stating that a positive response from India is now needed. The proposal comes amid strained bilateral relations following a regime change in Bangladesh in August 2024. Mr. Uddin expressed hope that a bilateral meeting could help overcome these tensions.

While India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson previously offered no update on such a meeting, Bangladesh remains optimistic. Mr. Yunus is scheduled to attend the BIMSTEC summit from April 2-4, and the meeting between the two leaders is intended to occur during this time.

Before the Bangkok summit, Mr. Yunus will undertake a three-day visit to China to participate in the Boao Forum for Asia. This visit may include discussions on the Teesta River reservoir project, despite it not being officially on the agenda. Other topics of discussion with China include Myanmar’s internal situation and Rohingya repatriation, alongside potential agreements on various aspects of cooperation. Mr. Uddin described China as a close friend of Bangladesh.
