Mon Mar 24 20:32:08 UTC 2025: ## Mosque Shelling Kills Five in Khartoum Amid Intense Sudanese Fighting

**Khartoum, Sudan** – At least five civilians were killed and dozens injured in a paramilitary shelling attack on a mosque in eastern Khartoum on Monday, according to the Emergency Lawyers network. The attack, targeting civilians during evening prayers, is the latest in a series of escalating attacks blamed on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The incident follows a major Sudanese army offensive on Friday that saw the SAF retake central Khartoum, including the presidential palace, from the RSF. Sunday saw further RSF shelling in Omdurman, killing three more civilians. The army claims to have seized the central bank headquarters and reports eliminating hundreds of RSF fighters in recent fighting.

Despite army advances in the capital, the RSF maintains control over western Khartoum, effectively creating a de facto partition of the city. The paramilitary group is reportedly establishing a parallel government in its controlled territories.

The conflict between the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF, headed by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, began in April 2023. The fighting has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis, with tens of thousands dead and over 12 million displaced. The ongoing conflict continues to endanger civilians caught in the crossfire.
