Mon Mar 24 21:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Trump’s Transgender Military Ban
**PHILADELPHIA, March 25, 2025** – A New Jersey federal judge has issued a two-week temporary restraining order blocking the removal of two transgender men from the Air Force. This follows a similar ruling last week in Washington, D.C., challenging a 2025 executive order by President Donald Trump banning transgender individuals from military service.
U.S. District Judge Christine O’Hearn ruled that Master Sgt. Logan Ireland and Staff Sgt. Nicholas Bear Bade are likely to succeed in their legal challenge, arguing that the ban violates their equal protection rights. The judge cited the significant damage to their careers and reputations, describing the loss of military service as “a profound disruption of personal dignity, medical continuity, and public service.”
Ireland, with over 14 years of service and deployments to Afghanistan, South Korea, and the UAE, and Bade, with over six years of service, have both received numerous awards and medals. They were placed on administrative leave, Ireland from a training program and Bade from a deployment in Kuwait.
President Trump’s executive order, signed in January, claimed that the sexual identities of transgender service members conflict with military principles and harm readiness. The Pentagon deferred comment to the Justice Department, which has yet to respond. The judge’s ruling highlights the ongoing legal battle surrounding the ban on transgender individuals in the U.S. military.
