**Belagavi, Karnataka, March 25, 2025** – All 35 members of the Vijayapura Municipal Corporation have been disqualified for failing to declare their assets as required by law. The disqualification affects members from all parties represented in the corporation: BJP (17), Congress (10), JD(S) (1), AIMIM (2), and Independents (5).
The action follows a Karnataka High Court ruling stemming from a petition by former member Prakash Mirji Mainuddin. The court ordered the state government to address the non-compliance with asset declaration rules. While the council members were elected in 2022, the Mayor (Congress member Mehzabeen Horti) and Deputy Mayor (Dinesh Halli) were elected in January 2024.
Sources within the Regional Commissioner’s office indicate that fresh elections for the city corporation are anticipated.
