**GAZA CITY** – Al Jazeera Media Network has strongly condemned the killing of its correspondent Hossam Shabat in an Israeli airstrike in Jabalia, Gaza, calling it an “assassination.” Shabat, a correspondent for Al Jazeera Mubasher, was killed when his car was targeted. His death brings the number of Al Jazeera journalists killed in the ongoing Gaza conflict to five, including Samer Abudaqa, Hamza Al-Dahdouh, Ismail Al-Ghoul, and Ahmed Al-Louh.
Al Jazeera vowed to pursue legal action against those responsible and reiterated its commitment to covering events in Gaza despite the ongoing dangers faced by its journalists. The network stated that over 200 journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 2023 and called on international human rights and media organizations to condemn the Israeli actions and demand accountability for the systematic targeting of journalists. Al Jazeera extended its condolences to Shabat’s family. The network described the killing as a violation of international humanitarian law.
