Tue Mar 25 15:38:53 UTC 2025: ## Israel’s Renewed Gaza Assault Exacerbates Humanitarian Crisis, Hundreds Dead

**GAZA CITY** – Israel’s renewed bombardment of the Gaza Strip, following a short-lived ceasefire, has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians, including many children, and dramatically worsened an already dire humanitarian crisis. The ongoing siege, now spanning over 17 months, has seen Israel repeatedly weaponize food and humanitarian aid, intentionally restricting its entry into the besieged enclave.

Since the October 2023 conflict began, civilians have faced extreme food shortages and famine-like conditions. Dozens of children have reportedly died from starvation, while countless others have perished from preventable illnesses and injuries. Even during brief ceasefires, the flow of aid has been severely limited, consistently falling short of the population’s needs.

The situation deteriorated sharply following Israel’s unilateral breach of the January ceasefire on March 18th. Hundreds more Palestinians have perished in the renewed attacks, adding to the mounting death toll. Reports indicate intentional targeting of aid convoys, with the Israeli military citing “terrorists” as justification without providing evidence. International aid organizations, including the World Central Kitchen (WCK), have been forced to halt operations due to the dangerous conditions and attacks on aid workers.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, alleging the “war crime of starvation as a method of warfare.” Despite international condemnation and pressure, the Israeli government, particularly far-right ministers, has continued to advocate for blocking aid and even military occupation of Gaza, prioritizing these over a lasting ceasefire. While some aid has been allowed in following ceasefires, the volume remains insufficient, leaving thousands without adequate shelter, food, or medical care as the winter cold exacerbates the suffering. The ongoing blockade, combined with relentless attacks, creates a catastrophic humanitarian situation for the 2.3 million people trapped in Gaza.
