Goenka, chairman of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, is a prominent Indian businessman with a net worth estimated at $4 billion by Forbes. His business empire includes the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation, supermarket chain Spencer’s, and the snack brand Too Yumm!. He ranks among the world’s richest, according to Forbes.
The LSG, purchased by Goenka’s group for ₹7,090 crore in 2021, spent a hefty ₹119.90 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, acquiring 19 players. Pant’s record-breaking ₹27 crore acquisition makes him the most expensive player in LSG’s roster. Goenka’s post-match questioning of Pant is likely attributed to this significant investment and the team’s defeat.
