SAN DIEGO — The wife of a decorated California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) captain, Rebecca Marodi, has been arrested in Mexico and charged with her murder. Yolanda Olejniczak Marodi, 53, was apprehended Saturday in Mexicali and subsequently transferred to U.S. Marshals.

Marodi, 49, was found stabbed to death at her Ramona home on February 17th. Investigators quickly identified Olejniczak Marodi as the prime suspect. Surveillance footage from the couple’s home allegedly shows a violent altercation between the two, with Marodi screaming for help before being seen with blood on her back. The footage also shows Olejniczak Marodi fleeing the scene in an SUV and crossing the border into Mexico later that night.

Olejniczak Marodi has a history of violence. The *Los Angeles Times* reports she was previously convicted of voluntary manslaughter for the stabbing death of her former husband in 2000, serving nearly a decade in prison.

The investigation into Captain Marodi’s death is ongoing. Olejniczak Marodi is currently being held in San Diego County and it is unknown if she has legal representation at this time. Marodi, a veteran Cal Fire captain, was recently involved in battling the Eaton fire near Los Angeles. She and Olejniczak Marodi had been married for just over two years.
