Mon Mar 24 09:11:14 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru Streets Transformed into “Foam Party” After Unexpected Rainfall

**Bengaluru, India –** A heavy rainfall in Bengaluru on Saturday brought much-needed relief from the scorching heat, but also a bizarre and unexpected phenomenon: streets in the NIMHANS Dairy Circle area were covered in a thick, snow-like white foam.

The unusual sight, captured on video by Instagram user Milan and widely shared online, quickly went viral. The footage shows roads blanketed in white foam, with vehicles driving through, leaving trails in their wake, creating the illusion of a snowfall.

While some users jokingly suggested everything from a spilled detergent to a new government initiative, many attributed the foam to the flowering of soapnut trees (Shikakai). These trees, whose fruits are used in shampoos and other products, produce a soapy substance when their flowers mix with rainwater, especially during the first rains of the season. One commenter warned of the slippery conditions for two-wheeler drivers.

This isn’t the first time Bengaluru has experienced such a phenomenon. The city has previously seen similar frothing in its lakes, notably Bellandur Lake, which scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have linked to detergents and untreated sewage in the water. While the cause of the street foam appears to be natural in this instance, the incident highlights the city’s ongoing issues with water pollution.
