THANJAVUR, March 24, 2025 – Residents of Seiyamangalam village in Budalur block, Thanjavur district, have accused an individual of illegally seizing 41 cents of public land traditionally used for the village temple festival. The villagers claim that when they attempted to clean the land in preparation for this year’s festival, they were blocked by the individual, who presented a land title deed.
Upon investigation with the Sub-Registrar Office in Thirukkattuppalli, villagers confirmed the land had been registered in the individual’s name. However, legal heirs of the family who originally donated the land claim they were unaware of this transaction. The villagers have submitted a memorandum to the district administration, alleging fraudulent land transfer and demanding action to reclaim the land for public use. They are seeking legal intervention to ensure the continued use of the land for the village temple festival.
