**Sanaa, Yemen –** Overnight US air raids across Yemen have resulted in at least one death and 13 injuries, including three children, according to the Houthi-run Health Ministry. The strikes, which targeted several locations including the capital Sanaa, Saada, Hodeidah, and Marib province, are the latest in a renewed US military offensive against the Houthi group.
The Houthi Ministry spokesperson, Anees Alasbahi, stated that a residential building in Sanaa’s Aser area was hit, resulting in the casualties. Footage released by the Houthis showed the damage to the building. While the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed ongoing strikes against Houthi targets across multiple locations, it has not yet acknowledged the Sanaa strike specifically. A CENTCOM official only stated that strikes are being conducted daily and nightly.
The renewed US offensive, launched on March 15th, follows Houthi threats to resume attacks on Red Sea shipping in response to Israel’s blockade of Gaza. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz claimed that the Houthi threat is forcing a significant portion of US-flagged shipping to take a much longer route around Africa. The Houthis have also claimed responsibility for recent attacks targeting Israel.
The Houthis vehemently deny that the US strikes target military sites, characterizing them as attacks on civilian areas and a deliberate killing of innocent people. They have vowed that the strikes will not deter their support for Palestinians in Gaza, and pledged continued support for Lebanon and Hezbollah if necessary. The Houthis claim that US air raids since last Thursday have killed at least 79 people and injured over 100. The US, however, has offered limited details about its targets, claiming to have struck key Houthi leadership, including the head of their missile program, as well as communications nodes, weapons factories, and drone production facilities.
