**COIMBATORE, TAMIL NADU –** Thirteen first-year undergraduate students at the Nehru Institute of Technology in Coimbatore have been suspended following an alleged assault on a senior student. The incident, which reportedly stemmed from accusations of theft on campus, occurred on March 20th.

A video circulating online, though unverified by NDTV, shows the senior student, shirtless, forced to kneel and hold his hands up by a group of students. The student is heard expressing pain and eventually collapses, yet the assault appears to continue.

Dr. Maheswaran, the Institute’s deputy Chief Warden, confirmed the incident and stated that the college administration immediately launched an investigation. An enquiry committee has been formed, and the 13 implicated students have been suspended pending the outcome of the inquiry, scheduled for March 24th. Both the suspended students and their parents have been summoned.

The college has also reported the incident to the police, who have initiated criminal proceedings. A senior police officer confirmed that a criminal investigation is underway.
